How does NodeWorx fit within the InterWorx framework?

NodeWorx sits at the server owner-level of  the InterWorx suite. NodeWorx is built to wrap all critical aspects of managing a server into a single, easy to use package. NodeWorx also provides end-to-end control over SiteWorx web hosting accounts which are created and managed from within the NodeWorx infrastructure.

What are some of the key features NodeWorx provides?

NodeWorx is a server management tool and thus provides a set of core features to manage any server. The design paradigm for NodeWorx was to give the server owner direct control of as much of the system as necessary while allowing some tasks to be handled automatically in the background. NodeWorx was also developed with the seasoned system administrator in mind as it is a non-obtrusive management system. If you are more comfortable in a shell session than a browser NodeWorx won't get in your way. Below are some highlights of the tools and functions included in the NodeWorx infrastructure:

Website Account Management

One of NodeWorx main functions is to allow the easy creation and management of SiteWorx website accounts. Creating SiteWorx accounts is a single step process so setting up new websites is a breeze. NodeWorx also includes single-click access of the server administrator to any SiteWorx account on the server for easy diagnosis of user issues.

Automatic Software Updates

Keeping your server's software up to date is a must and we've made it easy by integrating an automatic update system directly into NodeWorx. The NodeWorx update system is powered by the Yellow dog Updater, Modified package for the Red Hat Linux release of NodeWorx. Updates are completed as needed in the background or can be initiated by the user.

DNS Management

Each NodeWorx box is also a full fledged DNS server. You can create and manage zones from the same interface as you do all other NodeWorx tasks. NodeWorx incorporates a set of macros to automatically setup new SiteWorx accounts with a "standard" DNS setup. NodeWorx can also be setup to synchronize DNS records with outside DNS servers via an XML-based export system.

IP Address Management

NodeWorx provides an easy interface to manage the IP addresses that are bound to your server. You can choose to setup SiteWorx accounts on static or shared IP addresses that you configure and you can also easily see what SiteWorx accounts are setup on which IPs so you can more easily allocate which SiteWorx accounts go on which IP addresses. NodeWorx can also be configured to setup reverse DNS entries for each IP address when used in a multi-server DNS environment.

Detailed Real-time Server Statistics

Managing a server can be daunting and nothing can be more daunting than having to monitor many aspects of your server by looking at log files and using the basic unix tools to diagnose a problem, especially if the problem isn't visible when you are logged in. NodeWorx provides an array of real-time graphs of selected system services and operating system metrics. These real-time graphs allow you to drill-down so you can pinpoint memory, CPU, bandwidth or other problems via a consistent graphical interface.
